23 Days Uganda Cultural Tour

23 Days (22 Nights) Uganda safari takes you to some of the most popular cultural sites and attractions in Uganda combining the tour with visits to wildlife parks. Highlights of the trips include the Buganda cultural trail, game drives , boat trips and primate tracking to mention but a few.

Day 1: Arrival

Meet and greet our safaris driver guide.  You will be transferred to your hotel in Kampala for dinner and overnight. Serena hotel Kampala (luxury)/ Cassia lodge (midrange)/ Namirembe guest house (budget)

Day 2: Buganda Cultural Trail

Today you will visit the Kasubi royal tombs, a UNESCO world heritage site. Historically, Buganda Kabaka’s have always been buried here with 4 kings buried at the site at present.   After visiting Kasubi tombs drive to the Twekobe palace. This is where the 1900 Buganda agreement was signed. You will also visit the Buganda parliament locally called Lukiiko. This building houses meetings on trivial matters handled by the Kabaka and a cabinet of ministers.
You will have lunch followed by a visit to Uganda an ethnological site of vast importance, visit the independence monument.This monument tells the story of Uganda’s independence. Visit the Kololo independence grounds which doubles as an airstrip at the same time. It’s at this site that the union Jack was let down in 1962 and the Uganda flag was raised for the first time. Day 3: Ssezibwa falls, Mabira forest and source of the Nile

After breakfast you will leave Kampala and drive a to Ssezibwa falls. This is an important cultural site in Buganda. An onsite guide will take you around and tell the legend of these falls born by a woman.

Drive to Mabira forest where you will enjoy a guided nature walk. Yo will view lots of medicinal plants, important tree species, forest birds and even some monkeys. After the walk have lunch then drive to the source of the Nile. You will board a canoe ride to the source of the Nile. Day 4: Full day white water rafting

After breakfast enjoy the best grade five rafting in the world. You will stop midway for a lunch break then resume your rafting spree. Celebrate your victory with a barbecue at the end. Dinner and overnight stay at hotel/lodge/camp

Day 5: Transfer to Kapchorwa

Today involves a transfer to Sipi falls. Drive through Iganga and Mbale then Kapchorwa with a lunch stop over enroute. Dinner and overnight at Sipi River lodge (luxury)/ Sipi River lodge (midrange)/ Sipi falls resort (budget)

Day 6: Hike to the bottom of Sipi falls

After breakfast take a guided hike to the bottom of Sipi falls. This hike requires individuals who are reasonably fit since it’s very strenuous. You can also indulge into a rock climbing and abseiling contest if you feel like it or alternatively explore some caves. Dinner and overnight stay at lodge/ camp

Day 7: Transfer to Kitgum

Today begins with a hearty breakfast and an early set off as you prepare for the long drive ahead of you. The drive takes around 7 hours with a lunch stop over enroute. Check into your hotel  from where you will connect to Kidepo valley the next morning.

Day 8: Transfer to Kidepo valley national park

Your morning begins with a filling breakfast followed by a 4 hours transfer to Kidepo valley national park. On arrival, check into your lodge where you will have lunch. Have an evening game drive in the park where you may possibly sight Jackson’s hartebeest, elephants, sand grouse, lions and many more. Dinner and overnight at Apoka Lodge/ Nga Moru wilderness camp/ Apoka rest camp

Day 9: More game viewing, birding plus cultural experience

Your second day in Kidepo will entail drives and exploration in the area around the border of southern Sudan and Uganda. This drive will avail opportunities to view rare bird species and other wildlife that you may have missed like ostriches, mountain buzzards and many more at the banks of the Kidepo River. You will return to your lodge for lunch after which you will embark on a guided village walk experiencing the  Karamijong culture a very interesting experience. Dinner and overnight at lodge/camp

Day 10: Drive to Murchison Falls national park

You will check out of the Kidepo area after breakfast today and will spend most of your day transferring to Murchison falls national park. Stop over for lunch enroute and arrive in time for dinner at your chosen lodge.Paraa safari lodge (luxury)/ Sambiya River lodge (Medium range)/ Red Chilli rest camp (Budget)

Day 11: Morning game drives and launch cruise on the Nile

Begin your morning with an early breakfast after which you will have a game drive whedre you may sight lions, giraffe, Uganda kob, elephants etc. take a break for a light lunch and in the afternoon proceed to encounter the beauty of both Murchison falls and River Nile. Possible sightings on this cruise will include water birds like king fishers, piac paic, bush shrikes, and lots of wildlife that water on the River banks. Dinner and overnight stay at lodge/ camp

 

Day 12: Drive to Kibale forest

The entire day will entail a drive to Fort portal the home of Kibale forest with a lunch stop over enroute arriving late evening.Primate Lodge (luxury)/ Chimp’s Nest (Medium range)/Chimpanzee guest house (Budget)

chimpsDay 13: Chimp walk and swamp exploration

Begin your morning with breakfast at your lodge after which you will be transferred to the forest for a short briefing by an UWA official and have a guide allocated for your chimp walking.  You will view chimps in their natural habitat whilst on this walk and if you are lucky you may also see some other primates. Have lunch at your lodge then proceed to Bigodi wetland a pleasant spot for birders. Lots of swamp specialties like Green buls, African pitta, crowned eagle and many more will be spotted here.Dinner and overnight at lodge/camp

Day 14: Drive to Queen Elizabeth national park + evening game drive

Check out of your lodge after breakfast and proceed to Queen Elizabeth national park. Settle into your choice lodge after which you will relax and have a light lunch. Day 15: Game drive and launch cruise

Pre-breakfast game drive to spot early risers after which you will return to your lodge for breakfast and later lunch. Board the evening launch along the Kazinga channel along which you may sight buffaloes, crocodiles as they bask on the river banks, African fish eagle, cormorants and many more. Dinner and overnight at lodge/ camp

Day 16: Primate Gorge walk and transfer to Bwindi

Morning starts off with a sumptuous breakfast after which you will have a guided walk in Kyambura gorge viewing different primate species like the common baboon, chimpanzees, vervet monkeys, black and white colobus to mention but a few. Have lunch at your lodge after which you will check out and drive through Ishasha (famous for tree climbing lion) reaching Bwindi impenetrable national park in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Forest Camp/ Engagi lodge/ Buhoma community rest camp/ Nkuringo camp

Day 17:  Gorilla trekking in Bwindi forest

Tracking begins by 8:00 am after briefing from UWA officials. Individuals of relative fitness should embark on this spree which can last in between 1-6 hours with upto 95% chances of seeing the gorillas. The gorilla family you will visit will be determined by the one allocated to you during the purchase of your permit. Carry a non-flash camera, a few energy bites, drinking water, light rain gear, wear sturdy walking boots because it sometimes gets slippery in the rain forest and also wear long sleeved clothes to guard against stinging nettles. You will spend a maximum of 2 hours with the mountain gorillas and on your return you will be awarded with a gorilla tracking certificate as a successful tracker. Return to lodge for dinner and overnight stay

 

Day 18: visit to Lake Bunyonyi

On leaving Bwindi, your next destination will be the Switzerland of Africa – Kabale. You will visit the Bakiga museum or home of Edirisa where you will have a local choice cuisine for lunch and a tour around the museum. Day 19: Canoe ride & Batwa community experience

After breakfast at your lodge you will be driven to the banks of Lake Bunyonyi from where you will board a traditional canoe to visit the local Batwa. The pygmies will entertain you with a dance and you will also experience their way of life taken around by an onsite guide. Return to lodge/ camp for dinner and overnight stay

 

Day 20: Drive to Lake Mburo and boat ride

Drive to Lake Mburo national park after breakfast at your lodge arriving in time for lunch. In the evening have a boat ride on Lake Mburo an opportunity to sight Zebra, oribi, waterbuck, buffalo and other wildlife.Mihingo lodge(luxury)/ Arcadia cottages (Medium range)/Rwonyo camp (Budget)

Day 21: Quad biking and game drive

Experience a guided tour of the park on quad bikes an exhilarating experience! Return to your lodge for breakfast and later lunch after which you will have a nature walk in the company of an armed ranger. Experience the salt lick at an observation post where you view at leats 4 different animal species licking the salty soil. Return to lodge for dinner and overnight

Day 22: Game drive and transfer to Entebbe

Have breakfast then have a game drive as you exit the park and drive to Kampala. Stop over at Kayabwe – equator for photography and souvenir shopping after which you will proceed to Entebbe.

Day 23: Departure

This day is reserved for transfers to the airport ending your trip
